From native and rare breeds to ancient reptiles, we have plenty of animals waiting to meet you at Greenmeadow Community Farm. Say hello to them in the Animal Barn, get up close in Cuddle Corner and see them roam in the paddocks.

Badger face sheep (Torddu variety) are native to the Welsh uplands. They have white faces with bold black markings – their name even means ‘black belly’ in Welsh!

Coloured Ryeland sheep are a lowland rare breed, originally from England. Their wool is soft and coloured making it ideal for hand-spinners.

Jacob sheep are a native breed to both the UK and Middle East. They’re easy to keep as a breed and hardy, with spotted fleece with between 2 and 6 horns!

Highland cattle are native to the Scottish Highlands and characterised by their iconic long horns and big shaggy coat. They’re well-suited to rough terrain and our cold Welsh weather.

Dexter cattle are the smallest UK cattle breed which originate from Ireland. They are traditionally raised for beef and a friendly and easy to manage breed.

British Friesians

British Friesians originate from the UK from the early 20th century. They’re well known for their high milk and beef yield, making them highly valued on farms.

Welsh pigs

Welsh pigs were first bred in the 1870s. They’re a medium to large white pig with a long body and make excellent mothers.

Tamworth pigs originate from England from the 19th century. They have a distinctive red-gold coat and are known for being hardy and good foragers. One of our older girls is called Bronwyn.

Berkshire pigs are a rare English heritage breed, prized for the high-quality of their meat. They’re good foragers outdoors and have black coats with white points.

Kune Kune pigs originate from New Zealand in the pre-1800s. They’re compact and rotund, with short hairy coats in various colours. They’re very friendly and sociable.

Anglo Nubian goats

Anglo Nubian goats originate from England in the 19th century. They’re a large-framed dairy coat, known to have milk high in butterfat. They have long ears and are vocal and friendly.

Donkey

Donkeys

Donkeys are an ancient breed that originate from the Mediterranean/Africa. They’re hardy and sure-footed and are still used for carrying loads and guarding livestock. Greenmeadow’s donkeys are called Prince and Angel.

Cob horses are a historic breed from the UK. They’re strong with sturdy legs and a calm and steady temperament.

Shetland pony

Shetland ponies

Shetland ponies have prehistoric origins. They have thick coats and strong hooves and a small but powerful build. Wilhemina, Sherbert, Wilf and Dylan are waiting to welcome you to Greenmeadow!

Giant rabbits originate from Europe in the 1700s. They’re known to be crepuscular, which means they’re most active at dawn and dust.
